It’s Only the Beginning – Introduction to Glass Fusing
Getting a good foundation into glass fusing makes all the difference. This class is for beginners and people who may be self-taught who what to learn the basic building blocks of glass fusing.
We will cover everything from different types of glass available and what to use them for; safety; different kilnform processes; firing schedules; what the glass is doing in the kiln; and some design concepts. We will even discuss other advanced kiln processes that you can explore going forward.
This class will focus on the beginning, going over full fusing, tack firing and slumping. You will create a flat piece(s) which will be slumped in a mold and a tack fired art piece. All this will be covered in three 3 hour classes.
Includes: 3 sessions – 3 hours each
All glass, tools, supplies needed
Three firings to complete a full fuse, tack fuse and slumping
Dates: April 19th, 26th and May 3rd
Time: 10am – 1pm
Classes and workshops are for those who are 18 years of age or older, except where noted, or by special permission and when accompanied by an enrolled adult.
Please note – All classes are private and will be at FusedGlassWarehouse, unless otherwise indicated. Our teaching space is on the second floor and does require participants to be able to climb a flight of stairs. If you cannot climb stairs, please let us know and we will make arrangements to schedule a separate class on the lower level to accommodate you.
Preparing for Class
Class participants should arrive a few minutes before class to get settled so we can start promptly.
FusedGlassWarehouse will provide eye protection, but students can bring their own personal protection equipment if they have it. Safety glass must be worn in the classroom while working.
Class participants must wear closed toe and closed heel shoes at all times. No flip flops, sandals or slip-on shoes (without backs) allowed.
If any other required clothing, tools, gear, etc., are required you will be notified by email of those requirements.
We do recommend students wear long pants, socks and natural fiber clothing.
Eating and drinking is not allowed in the classroom space. If the class is a full day and we stop for breaks, you will be given a location to eat in.
